Multidisciplinary Evaluations (MDE)
A Multidisciplinary Evaluation (MDE) is a comprehensive assessment used by the New York City Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) to better understand a child’s development and determine eligibility for preschool special education services.
At First Step Therapy, MDEs are completed by a team of licensed, DOE-credentialed professionals who work together to evaluate a child’s strengths and needs across all developmental areas. Evaluations are family-centered, age-appropriate, and conducted in accordance with NYC DOE guidelines.
An MDE may include evaluations in the following areas:
- Psychological Evaluation
- Speech and Language Evaluation
- Occupational Therapy Evaluation
- Physical Therapy Evaluation
- Social History (completed with the parent or caregiver)
The evaluation team collaborates to provide a clear and accurate picture of the child’s development. Findings and recommendations are shared with the family and the CPSE team to support informed decision-making and appropriate educational planning.
